A robot just called claiming I’ve got a warrant out for tax evasion, so it looks like the scammers are at it again this year. It bears repeating, this is definitely a scam, and the IRS doesn’t work this way. If you get a call like this, please don’t respond. You are not going to be arrested, and the first level of response from the IRS is a mailed letter, not a warrant.

Not sure if it will help, because these people have different lines, but the call came from Bellevue, WA, and the number was 1-425-777-7270

This. From https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/tax-scams-consumer-alerts:

Note that the IRS doesn’t:

  • Call to demand immediate payment using a specific payment method such as a prepaid debit card, gift card or wire transfer. Generally, the IRS will first mail you a bill if you owe any taxes.
  • Threaten to bring in local police or other law-enforcement groups to have you arrested for not paying.
  • Demand payment without giving you the opportunity to question or appeal the amount they say you owe.
  • Ask for credit or debit card numbers over the phone.

Basically if anyone ever gets one of these calls, hang up. Don’t try and “own” them, don’t argue and try to trick them into revealing their hand, just end the call. If you’re feeling up to it, you can report them to the actual IRS; that link I posted has a section on how to do so.
