It’s just so fucking pervasive in so many niche groups I’ve been in. When I was younger I would just go along with it, because they were adults and I thought they knew better. Then I got to be an adult myself and started realizing how uncomfortable that was, and just dropped out of most of those groups altogether (cartoons, horror, and anything Japanese are just fucking rife with this, so any crossover is just guaranteed to be awful).

Just… it’s easy to worry, and start thinking you’re a horrible person because you’ve been friends/acquaintances with people who turned out like this. But it just seems like that’s just going to be a fact of life if you have interests like these at all. All you can do is try to stay safe and keep the people you care about safe.
